EC gives approval for formation of "Aamu Rayyithunge Party"

The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has given permission for the formation of a political party to be known as "Aamu Rayyithunge Party" (Common Citizen's Party).

EC issued permission to Ahmed Saeed of Kanadhooge, Hithadhoo island, Seenu atoll on the condition that 3,000 membership forms are submitted within three months.

There are a total of ten parties currently registered at the EC with the largest political party being the main-ruling, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Others include Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Adhaalath Party, Jumhooree Party (JP), Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD), Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party (Labour Party), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) and Peoples National Congress Party (PNC).
