A temporary Biometric Clinic for Germany-Schengen Visa was opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

The clinic is an initiative by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Maldives with joint assistance from the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Foreign Ministry revealed that they have received a total of 162 appointment bookings thus far, adding that the services made available at the clinic has been extended until 6 February "due to increased demand."

The clinic aims to ease difficulties for Maldivians applying for visa to travel to Germany, including those who are set to participate in the Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB) Fair to commence during March 2020.

Visas issued through the clinic will allow access to travel to all Schengen countries after first traveling to Germany to acquire access to the other countries.

While this is the second time Schengen Visa Application Service is provided in the Maldives, a permanent Schengen Visa Application Centre is to open next month with assistance from the German Government and VFS Global.

This announcement was made during a joint press conference held by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Ambassador of Germany Jörn Rohde, on 16th December 2019.
