Government officials including the president himself and authorities should be not be allowed to influence the work of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

During a meeting with members of ACC at the President’s Office on Tuesday, members shared details of the cases lodged with them, going on to enlighten the president on the process undergone to investigate each case.

Further, they went on to elaborate on the process taken by the commission before work on a case is requested to be halted.

Other discussions revolved around emphasis on ongoing deliberations with the government bodies to establish and implement preventive measures against corruption as the commission is mandated to serve as a deterrent to corruption through proactive action plans and not just to investigate case.

Expressing gratitude towards the ACC for their valuable contribution towards eradicating corruption in the Maldives, President Solih reiterated the government’s commitment to maintain the key policy of “zero tolerance for corruption”. This, he said is vital for good governance.

In addition, the president went on to encourage all members of the commission to not back down in taking preventive measures to curb corruption, and launch further initiatives to spread public awareness about the matter.
