The Kelaa Island Council has announced that they will issue the plots of land allocated under the government's housing scheme to its respective owners next month.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, vice-president of Kelaa island council, Aminath Ismail stated that the final list of qualified applicants for the 3000-acre plots was publicised on December 31st, 2019.
Noting that the 68 plots of land were first allocated under the housing scheme five years ago, Aminath stated that the long delay was due to several bureaucratic reasons. As such, she revealed that many residents of the island require land and that over 100 people applied for the plots last year as well.
Highlighting that not every applicant will qualify for the plots, Aminath assured that the council will be fair and just in their work.
Furthermore, Aminath disclosed that another opportunity to apply for plots of land will be announced very soon.
Kelaa island of Haa alif atoll currently has a population of 2300 people.
