President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has forwarded his nomination for the Supreme Court bench to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for further review.

The president announced that his nomination of former Supreme Court Chief Justice, Ahmed Faiz Hussain, has been forwarded to the JSC for further review.

In addition to the role of Supreme Court Justice, Faiz has also previously served as a Judge at the Civil Court and the High Court.

Faiz has been nominated for the vacancy on the Supreme Court bench following the dismissal of Supreme Court Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed on December 4th. 64 MPs voted in favor of Ghanee's dismissal, while two voted against.

As such, there are currently two vacant seats on the Supreme Court bench with Justice Abdulla Areef retiring last month.

Ghanee was the fourth Supreme Court justice to be removed through parliament procedures since the 19th parliament began work this May.

Chief Justice Ahmed Abdulla Didi and Justice Adam Mohamed Abdulla were impeached on November 18 while Justice Abdulla Didi was removed in August.
