Human Rights Commission of the Maldives has stated that the commission's work will prosper with the support from the state and the relevant institutions.
Speaking at the special ceremony held on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, President of HRCM Aminath Eenas, highlighted the fact that despite the several human rights laws put into effect, the implementation of these laws has been neglected alongside the victims of human rights abuses.
She went onto elaborate on the challenges in the protection of human rights, citing a lack of funding, and a lack of cooperation from the state and other institutions.
According to Eenas, these challenges can only be solved when more people are established in the field of human rights advocacy and when state institutions receive adequate funding. Hence, Eenas asserted that co-operation from the state will allow the commission's work to flourish.
International Human Rights Day is marked annually on December 10th. The United Nations has announced that this year's theme is – 'Youth Standing Up for Human Rights'.
