The Maldives women's basketball team has won a bronze medal in the South Asian Games 2019.

The Maldives defeated Bhutan in the third-place playoff held at Nepal's National Basketball Hall with a 83-46 score.

The first set of the match began with Bhutan taking the lead and swiftly scoring against the Maldives. However, Maldives quickly turned the tables within the first quarter and countered Bhutan's attacks, ending the set with a 21-14 point lead.

The Maldives put up a strong front at the second set with star players, team captain Aminath Shiura and Fathmath Rishma scoring most of the points. A weak performance was seen by the Bhutanese players and the quarter ended with a score of 49-27.

In the third quarter, up and coming players were given a chance over the team's senior players of the Maldives team. The younger players, who gave an exemplary performance, ended the quarter with a leading score of 69-33.

The younger players were seen again in the fourth quarter, which the Maldivian team easily concluded with a final score of 83-44.

This is the first international achievement in the history of women's basketball in the Maldives.
