The president urged everyone to contribute in the fight against corruption as it is inaction that allows for the culture of corruption to grow

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged the public to reach out to the relevant authorities to expose anyone in the government who practice the culture of corruption and wrongdoings.

In his message in commemoration of the International Anti-Corruption Day, the president called on the public to embrace honesty and integrity and to make sure there is no delay in reporting any cases of corruption or wrongdoing by anyone in the public sector.

Noting that the Whistle-blower Protection Act ensures safety for those who “proactively” expose wrongdoing within the government offices, Solih stated that a Corruption Reporting Portal has also been established and it will in turn offer anonymity for whistleblowers.

Stressing on the government’s keenness to maintain a zero-tolerance policy on corruption, the president went on to reveal that a bill will be submitted to the People’s Majlis seeking to criminalize corruption, accepting bribery and facilitation of undue benefits.

Further, he urged everyone to contribute in the fight against corruption as it is inaction that allows for the culture of corruption to grow despite the number of laws and regulations against it.

Assuring the government’s determination to continue battling corruption, Solih stressed that corruption undermines social and economic development and as such, prevention and prohibition are key to ensure growth and stability as well as to enforce equal justice for all.

In addition, the president said that rooting out corruption poses significance for the country’s development as it obstructs the society from reaping the full benefits of resources.

Solih also went on to highlight that the government initiated the declaration of assets of all political appointees and board members to state institutions in line which his first 100-day agenda.
