Minister of Home Affairs, Imran Abdulla, has revealed that the boat in which the culprits of the vandalism in Maaungoodhoo island of Shaviyani atoll with a terrorist group logo, has been identified.
Imran was summoned to the sitting of the People’s Majlis on Tuesday where he was questioned about the incident that took place in Maaungoodhoo island earlier this week, following which the minister revealed that a team of officers had travelled to the island for investigations.
The minister said that the officers have identified the boat on which the vandals were travelling, investigations revealed. However, its location is unknown and police continue the search for the vessel.
The minister gave his assurance that strict measures will be taken against the vandals once the boat is seized.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, the island council previously revealed that four individuals arrived on the island on a sea-cucumber fishing boat and vandalized the island’s walls using spray paint before leaving later that night. They are to have spray-painted the flag of the terrorist organization Islamic State or IS.
A shopkeeper from the island had later confirmed that four outsiders had purchased spray paint from the shop, however, there were no witnesses of the crime.
Since then, an emergency motion has been presented to the parliament floor by South Henveiru constituency MP, Hussain Shaheem regarding the matter, as well over reports of a pregnant 13-year-old child bride.
