The Paralympic sport of Blind Football has been introduced to the Maldives.
The sport was introduced during a special ceremony held by the Football Association of the Maldives (FAM) on Friday evening.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Mahloof, FAM president, Bassam Adil Jaleel, Managing Director of Maldives Sports Corporation, Mauroof Ahmed, as well as members of Special Olympics Maldives and Maldives Paralympic Committee.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Mahloof, highlighted the achievements of Maldivian paralympic athletes in the international arena and acknowledged the overwhelming support for the development of Paralympic sports by parents as well as Special Olympics Maldives, Maldives Paralympic Committee.
FAM president, Bassam, also spoke during the ceremony and stated that the introduction of blind football is a huge progress for football in the country as a whole and asserted that FAM will provide their full support in the development of blind football.
As such, a number of Maldivian Paralympic athletes have participated in international competitions and brought home medals.
