Boskalis Westminster Contracting Limited has been awarded the land reclamation project of Gulhifalhu.

The USD 53 million project was launched under the government's initiative to reduce congestion in capital city Male’.

The Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure announced in a press release that Boskalis Westminster Contracting Limited has signed an agreement with the ministry on 17th October 2019 to reclaim 16 million cubic meters of land in Gulhifalhu and construct a four-kilometer sea wall within 180 days.

The ministry predicts that the project will transform the interior of Male’, reduce congestion as per President Solih’s pledge, and is a step towards a more serene Male’.

The Boskalis Westminster Contracting Limited company has successfully carried out land reclamation projects in the Maldives in the past, with a total of 198 hectares of land reclaimed in ten inhabited islands between 2007-2015.

Director-General Fathimath Shana Farooq signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry, while Area Manager David Boustead represented Boskalis Westminster Contracting.
