Maldives Customs Service records show drugs have been smuggled into the Maldives from nineteen different countries.
The Maldives Customs Service announced via Twitter on Sunday that their records show that drugs have been smuggled into the Maldives from nineteen countries from four different continents.
According to the chart shared by Maldives Customs Service, most of the drug smuggling has originated from Asian countries. Likewise, the chart lists eleven countries from this region that drug smuggling has originated from via sea and air during the period of 2013-2018. They are:
1. Sri Lanka
2. India
3. Pakistan
4. Iran
5. Bangladesh
6. United Arab Emirates
7. Qatar
8. Malaysia
9. Uzbekistan
10. Kazakhstan
11. Thailand
The list of western countries drug smuggling has originated from include:
1. Belgium
2. Germany
3. England
4. Netherlands
5. Spain
The chart further shows that drugs have also been smuggled from Ethiopia, Benin, and Togo as well as Brazil, Trinidad, and Tobago.
Although the chart depicted the origins and routes of drug smuggling into the Maldives, it did not disclose any further details on the methods used or the amount of drugs smuggled in.
