Two expatriates have been arrested over the kidnapping of another expatriate.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they had received the report of the kidnapped Bangladeshi worker inside a house that accommodates expatriates in Maafannu-ward of capital city Malé, on Thursday.
Both individuals arrested are Bangladeshi nationals as well.
Kidnappers were supposedly blackmailing him for money and officers had been dispatched to the victim’s rescue shortly after receiving the report.
While investigations have been launched into the case, police refrained from revealing details of the house in which the crime was being carried out.
This comes at a time kidnapping cases of expatriate workers have been on the rise. As such, a kidnapped expatriate was rescued by authorities on 5 October, also in Maafannu-ward.
Five Bangladeshi expatriates were arrested and are being investigated in connection to the case.
