Preparations are underway to demolish the building that is falling over after the fire incident on Friday, revealed Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

MNDF Media Official revealed that the brittle building had started leaning after being hit by high-pressure hose water as it was constructed with steel.

While a clean-up of the area has since begun, MNDF revealed that they will be dismantling the leaning building as well, with officers having begun monitoring the region since Sunday night.

The fire broke out after an explosion inside a chemical warehouse in Henveiru-ward of capital city Malé on Friday, and it took down four warehouses and six houses in its wake. The toxic fumes injured over 200 individuals and 400 people had lost their homes, with one trapped inside her apartment having burned alive.

Although the cause of the fire has still not been revealed by the authorities, MNDF is working to evaluate the losses incurred by the fire.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided temporary shelter for those affected, including locals and expatriates and assured the public that they are being taken care of, until a solution is reached. Some of those have since been returned to the houses that are safe to live in.
