Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is accepting candidates for the two new posts opened at the Supreme Court bench.
This comes after JSC accepted President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's nominees for the posts at a meeting on Thursday.
The President held the meeting to consult JSC on appointing Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Aisha Shujoon Mohamed to the Supreme Court.
President Solih has done this under the powers vested in him under article 148 (a) of the Constitution, authorizing the President to appoint judges to the Supreme Court after consulting the JSC and with the approval of the majority of the People's Majlis present and voting.
This comes after President Solih ratified the 3rd amendment to the Judicature Act, on July 23, allowing the increase of the number of Judges residing on the Supreme Court bench from five, to seven.
