Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb is being treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

He was transferred to the hospital from jail on Thursday night.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Correctional Service Media Official said that he was taken to hospital after his forehead became swollen, citing Adeeb saying that he had fallen and hit his head in his jail cell.

Adeeb has been admitted to hospital numerous times and has also gone to India for further treatment. He also underwent laser treatment to evaporate stones in his kidneys in November last year. According to his family, Adeeb also has glaucoma and internal cysts and that these health issues developed after his incarceration in October 2015.

On August 8, the Supreme Court ordered the Correctional Service to keep Adeeb in remand until the conclusion of the case regarding embezzlement.

The High Court had overturned an eight-year conviction against Adeeb in May over embezzling funds owed to the state and the Supreme Court accepted the state’s appeal in June.

Adeeb was also caught attempting to flee to India and was handed over to Maldivian security officials on August 3.
