The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has approved three mobile taxi apps.

The decision was made after discussions with the public and drivers over the inflated prices of taxi fares in Male’.

The Ministry gave the greenlight to Avas Ride, A.I., and PickMe.

Transport Minister Aishath Nahula said that when President Solih’s administration came to power, there was great public concern over the unavailability and cost of taxi fares.

She said that the ministry has discussed the issue with taxi centers, drivers, and members of the public and made this decision for the benefit of everyone involved.

The Ministry has changed the price of taxi fares to between MVR 60 and 75 and allowed private hires to accept fares via the taxi apps according to the Transport Authority guidelines.
