The Anti-Corruption Commission of the Maldives (ACC) has revealed that funds linked to three government schemes had been deposited to former President Abdulla Yameen’s personal bank account.
Upon being summoned for questioning to parliament’s financial committee on Tuesday, ACC President Muavviz Rasheed revealed that their investigations into the massive case of graft involving state-run Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) showed USD one million deposited to Yameen’s account through SOF Private Limited.
During investigation, ACC is to have brought the matter to Yameen’s attention as the funds belonged to the state.
Further, Muavviz stated that they initially faced immense challenges during the investigations at first and that they were unable to acquire all bank details of the former President back then.
However, their latest investigations revealed that MVR 100 million had been deposited to Yameen’s account.
So far into the investigations, ACC revealed that they noticed transactions of funds in cash had also taken place.
Highlighting that there were some transactions with international accounts, the ACC President revealed that they are yet to acquire details regarding said transactions due to difficulties.
Muavviz said that the commission will share further details with the committee via letter, regarding their findings.
