Men's national volleyball team heads to Serbia after meeting with president
 
President Solih urged the team "to utilize this precious opportunity and reap its full benefit"

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the national volleyball team on Wednesday, prior to their departure for a training camp.

At the meeting held at Mulee-aage, President Solih noted that this is the first time that the national team was traveling to Europe for training and urged them to make the best use of it.

“[President Solih] urged the team to utilize this precious opportunity and reap its full benefit in getting the training needed to get ready for the IOIG [Indian Ocean Island Games].”

He also expressed hope that the training will help the team will achieve a medal at the games, which to be held in July.

The national team coach, Mohamed ‘Kaattey’ Saajid noted that the training camp in Serbia will help the team as it is currently ranked at 10th in the sport “in the whole world.”

He also assured the president that the team would bring success in the IOIG.

The Serbian Volleyball Federation agreed to host the Maldivian team for training during Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof’s visit to the country last month.

The minister had also visited the facility where the team will be camping at, he said that “it is one of the most well-equipped training facilities in the world” and that team “will be trained by the top coaches in Europe.”
