Parliament has accepted the amendment bill to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) regulations.

The bill was accepted at Wednesday’s sitting with 68 votes in favor and has been sent to the judiciary committee.

The bill was proposed on behalf of the government by North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy.

The amendment bill proposes to add an article to the JSC, requiring the formation of a new Department of Judicial Administration (DJA).

Once the bill is ratified, the current DJA will become defunct and all its responsibilities will be transferred to the new department.
