57 MPs took part in the vote

Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim has been elected Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group (PG) leader.

Azim, who was the only one to run for the position, received all 57 votes.

During the previous parliament tenure, he was the MDP PG deputy leader while North Hithadhoo MP Ahmed Aslam was PG leader. Incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had been the PG leader before Aslam.

Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb was elected MDP’s deputy PG leader with 57 votes while South Henveiru MP Hussain Shaheem was elected deputy with 54 votes in favor and three against. Labeeb and Shaheem were the only members who ran for the positions.

Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain was elected secretary general with 57 votes. He was also the only member to vie for the position.
