Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has stated that it will be investigating the disappearance of the crocodile kept at the Children’s Park.

At a press conference on Saturday, Vice Chief of Defence Force, Brigadier General Abdul Raheem said that many people have asked what had happened to the crocodile.

He said that the crocodile had been under MNDF’s custody after it was transferred from the Children’s Park, but that they do not know what had happened to it afterwards.

He said that, since this was an internal matter, MNDF will be investigating the incident and disclosing their findings.

Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has said that the crocodile was killed in a black magic ritual orchestrated by former President Abdulla Yameen during his administration. Adeeb detailed that, after they had failed to kill the crocodile using poison, military officers were used to kill and bury it near a mosque.

The crocodile was caught in an island in 1998 and was kept at the Children’s Park until 2015.
