Elections Commission (EC) has begun preparations to elect the executive committee of the Bar Council, as per the recently ratified Legal Profession Act.

EC confirmed this in a tweet on Thursday.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, EC member Ahmed Akram said they will announce the election date next week.

Article 11(b) of the Legal Profession Act states that the President, Vice President, and attorneys of the Bar Council’s executive committee should be chosen through an election organized by the EC. It also states that the election should be held within 21 days of ratification.

The ratification of the Legal Profession Act has resulted in the dismissal of attorney Latheefa Gasim from the Judicial Service Commission.
