The correctional service has refuted reports that Maafushi Prison officers had gone on strike over recent events.

Speaking to RaajjeMV on Sunday, the correctional service’s media officer Ahmed Naseem said that officers have come to work and that there were no issues at the prison.

The media reported that officers at Maafushi Prison is on strike over a recent scuffle that resulted in a prisoner injuring an officer.

The Commander of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS)’s Emergency Support Group has been suspended for the remainder of the investigation into the incident.

Commissioner of Prisons Abdulla Munaz has said that officers had also injured prisoners by using undue force to control the prison during the scuffle and that he will take action against those responsible after the conclusion of the investigation.
