Fazeel’s remand increased by 15 days

Criminal Court on Friday issued a 15-day additional remand to Ibrahim Fazeel, who was arrested in connection to an abduction in L. Gan.

Fazeel was arrested on April 6 while in hiding in Hulhumalé and was issued a 10-day remand.

A 44-year-old man was threatened at knifepoint, mugged, and kidnapped for ransom in Gan island on May 2. Two of the abductors were arrested near the drop zone the next day. Police said that one of them had attempted to flee on a motorcycle but was apprehended later.

Fazeel has also faced accusations for being the last person to see 19-year-old Aminath Shima Nafiz before she was reportedly lost at sea.

In February, Fazeel was escorting Shima to an island on a dinghy before it overturned. Fazeel then placed her on top of the capsized dinghy before swimming to a nearby resort for help. Shima has been missing since.

Fazeel and two others were also arrested in March, while trying to flee with Shima’s younger sister but were released in April.
