Five candidates had vied for the positions

People’s National Congress (PNC) has elected four vice presidents at Friday’s party congress.

Five candidates had vied for the positions.

Those elected were Villimale MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik with 126 votes, former Sri Lankan Ambassador Mohamed Hussain Shareef with 122 votes, former Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed with 122 votes, and Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau with 122 votes.

Former Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Mohamed Nimaal failed to get elected after receiving only 39 votes.

PNC elected four vice presidents after passing an amendment to its regulation at the party congress, increasing the party’s vice presidency seats from two to four.

The party also passed an amendment to make its national council a branch of its party council and include the party’s parliamentary group leader in the party’s negotiation meetings.

These amendments were passed with votes from the 137 PNC members at the congress.
