State-owned companies not allowed to give more than set Ramadan allowance

The Ramadan allowance for Muslim employees is MVR 3,000

Finance Ministry has stated that state-owned companies are not allowed provide more than the set Ramadan allowance.

In a circular to the 30 state-owned companies in Maldives, the ministry stated that the Ramadan allowance for Muslim employees is MVR 3,000.

The ministry stated that employees with more than one job should be given the Ramadan allowance from their main place of employment only.

Employees are legally required to give an additional MVR 3,000 to their employees before the start of Ramadan. Some state-owned companies previously provided more than the set amount for some of their workers.

The fasting month of Ramadan is set to begin on May 6.
