Anti-Corruption Commission has on Thursday questioned and taken statements from Alhan Fahmy, a candidate fielded by government coalition partner Jumhooree Party (JP) for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The corruption watchdog had summoned Alhan for questioning on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking to media afterwards, Alhan revealed that he was questioned over the funds he had provided during a sports competition in the constituency he is vying for in Parliament.
He, however, denied having funded the competition as a mean of vote buying or bribing to influence votes, having stated that it was purely to empower the community and by no means political.
“Both competitions were opened for the entire nation. There were announcements and everything. They gave slots as the teams came” said the candidate.
According to the constitution, candidates are not allowed to fund eligible voters by any means and must refrain from influencing eligible voters by providing, gifting, financing or any other means that could sway their votes.
