Public complaints regarding state-run housing projects of the previous administration will be taken on by the President’s Office, revealed the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
In a statement on Thursday, the ministry wrote that the ministry will not be accepting complaints regarding the “Hiyaa”, “Gedhoruverikurun” and ‘Gulhi Falhu” housing projects initiated by the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.
As such, the committee established by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to review public complaints about previous housing projects will be taking on complaints at the President’s Office.
Committee member Ahmed Tholal earlier revealed the committee’s intent to assess the list of flat recipients. The committee is currently investigating the 22,000 forms received under the “Hiyaa” housing project and it will take about five months to complete the assessment, he revealed.
Earlier in March, Housing Minister Athifa Shakoor revealed that as part of the government’s reform of the Hiyaa scheme, only 3,588 out of the 7,000 housing units will be given out due to the reform of the project structure.
Minister Athifa made the statement upon being questioned by Parliament.
Being developed in the reclaimed ‘Phase 2’ area in Hulhumalé, the capital city’s urban extension, “Hiyaa” scheme was to initially provide 7,000 flats and there are 2,500 units yet to be completed.
