Young goalkeeper Ibrahim Labaan Shareef has joined the national team practices.
Labaan, who was arrested and detained for allegedly assaulting a police officer at an opposition protest, was released on parole in May of last year.
After his release, he has been showing an impressive performance after joining football club Green Street.
Labaan will be playing for the under-23 team in the AFC Cup to be held in March; there are three spots for players over 23.
Football Association of Maldives has stated that team practice for their young players will begin after the conclusion of the youth championship.
The senior national team is currently in Malaysia for a friendly match. While coach Peter Segert wanted to replace the injured goalkeeper Mohamed Faisal with Labaan for the match, it was not allowed since Labaan has not completed his parole term.
Labaan was the goalkeeper for the Maldives under-16 team at the SAAF Championship in 2011 and the under-16 team.
