The parliament building’s outer wall is now being renovated.
RaajjeMV understands that military company SIVEK is tasked with increasing the height of the wall.
During President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, the military had taken control of the parliament and barred opposition MPs that had been unseated. During the subsequent protests, some MPs had climbed over the outer wall to enter the parliament.
At the time, deputy speaker Moosa Manik said that major changes would be brought to the parliament building, including increasing the height of the outer wall.
The cost of the renovations has not been disclosed.
