Seven sitting parliamentarians have won tickets to contest in the upcoming elections through the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Most of them garnered significant leads against other candidates for their respective constituencies, in MDP’s primary elections, held this Friday.

The two incumbents who contested for their constituencies in Malé had won; they are Central-Henveiru MP Ali Azim, and West-Maafannu constituency MP Mohamed Falaah.

In Malé, North-Maafannu constituency MP Imthiyaz Fahmy and North-Galolhu constituency MP Eva Abdulla had both been given the party ticket by default as no candidates contested for their constituencies.

In southernmost Addu City, Meedhoo constituency MP Rozaina Adam had won her constituency, as did Maradhoo constituency’s Ibrahim Shareef and North-Hithadhoo constituency’s Mohamed Aslam.

Thimarafushi constituency MP Mohamed Musthafa, who joined the party recently, had also won the ticket for the constituency he currently represents.

Current MP for North-Kulhudhuffushi constituency Abdul Ghafoor Moosa had contested and won the ticket for the Hanimadhoo constituency.

The parlaimentary elections are to be held on April 6th, and MDP is feilding candidates for all 87 constituencies.
