150 volunteers will be helping reassemble the Kalhuvakaru Mosque, says Mohamed Thoriq, the Minister of State for Arts, Culture and Heritage.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, state minister Thoriq said that 150 volunteers, both men and women, have signed onto help reassemble the historic landmark, which was dismantled in 2016 by former President Abdulla Yameen’s government to make way for the Winter Park at Sultan Park.

The new government has decided to reassemble and place the mosque near the Islamic Centre, on the land that previously held the Dhiraagu head office.

Some religious scholars raised concerns over the new location, including former Islamic minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem who expressed disapproval of two mosques being so close to each other.

Regarding this, Yumna Maumoon, the heritage minister, said the government is discussing and addressing the concerns.
