Husnu Suood claims gangs have tremendous influence at the courthouse

The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has asked that the presidential commission on murders and disappearances disclose information on the alleged corruption at the courthouse.

At a press conference earlier this week, commission head Husnu Suood made several claims, including that local gangs have enough influence to pick judges for specific court cases.

At Sunday’s press conference, Husnu Suood claimed that gangs have influence over the judges, and that some were even ‘nominated’ by the gangs. He also said that judges have deliberately halted death cases and that court officials have a hand in the gang’s involvement in the justice system.

The DJA stated that they wish to receive details on the alleged corruption in the justice system, specifically the Criminal Court, in order to work with the relevant institutions to solve the issues facing the judiciary.

It also stated that the Supreme Court, as the top most judicial authority, has found Husnu Suood’s claims worrying.

At the press conference, Husnu Suood detailed that gangs have been using their influence to intimidate witnesses, tamper with evidence, release suspected terrorists, reduce prison sentences, and jail innocent people.
