Ibrahim Hoodh said that "there are no issues within coalition" over the parliamentary elections

Coalition partners have not signed an agreement regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections, says the spokesperson at the President’s Office.

Ibrahim Hoodh said this while speaking to RaajjeMV, highlighting that the four leaders of the Joint-Party coalition have not signed a formal agreement regarding contesting in the parliamentary elections.

While the ruling coalition comprises of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP), Adhaalath Party (AP) and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM), Hoodh added that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will work to maintain the coalition.

Noting that some individuals have been speaking in a manner that could lead to confusion, Hoodh stated that “there are no issues within the coalition” over the matter.

While reports state that the ruling coalition partners had agreed to work together in next year’s parliamentary elections, with a certain number of seats assigned to each party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s national council on Saturday decided to compete in all 87 constituencies.

A leaked document shows that MDP had agreed to compete for 35 seats in the parliamentary elections, the rest were to be divided between the other three partners.

However, at Saturday’s council meeting MDP’s chairperson Hassan Latheef denied that the party had signed any such agreements.

Adhaalath Party on Sunday revealed that they will be contesting in 13 constituencies.
