Popular brand Duncan Hines' cake mix has been recalled following a salmonella outbreak.

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority on Wednesday issued a press release citing the United States Food and Drug Administration, (FDA) evidently investigating four types of cake mixes that have “potentially” been linked to “Salmonella Agbeni Illnesses”.

As such, specific Duncan Hines cake mixes such as Classic White, Classic Butter Golden, Classic Yellow as well as Signature Confetti are being withdrawn from store shelves by Conagra Brands, the company that makes Duncan Hines dessert mixes.

MFDA in its press release urged manufacturers to immediately stop purchase and sale of these items, banning its import and sale in the Maldives. The authority also appealed on all consumers to not use these brands any further.

Conagra Brands had in a news release stated that five cases of contamination are being investigated and that many of the consumers “reported consuming a cake mix at some point prior to becoming ill, and some may have also consumed these products raw and not baked”.

The manufacturer further advice consumers who have purchased these items to not consume them and to return them to the store where it was purchased.
