It has been revealed that former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor has been prescribed very strong medication that is making him feel extremely fatigued.

The former VP’s spouse Mariyam Nashwa revealed this via twitter on Monday.

Nashwa revealed that Adeeb had told her via a phone call on Monday that the medications he is taking currently is very strong. The tweet further reads that he feels extreme fatigue and giddiness upon taking the medication.

Stressing that he nearly collapsed in his cell, where he is being held in solitary confinement, on Monday, Nashwa tagged the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) and Maldives Police Service (MPS) in the tweet.

Nashwa had in late October, appealed to the HRCM, to order MSC to transfer her husband to house arrest after doctors recommended it, following his deteriorating health condition in solitary confinement.

Ever since his incarceration, the former VP faces several health complications. As such, Adeeb has been diagnosed with an internal cyst, kidney stones, and vision impairment from glaucoma since his incarceration in 2015. It is notable that the state has been continuing to reject the family’s continuous appeals to grant him medical leave, stating that he may only be released once he pays back the millions embezzled from state funds. He has also been denied a doctor prescribed cancer screening for the past 3 years.

The former vice president is serving a 33-year jail sentence for multiple charges including an attempted assassination of the president and massive case of graft involving the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
