Former state minister Akram Kamaludeen has returned after authorities released his passport.

Akram, who is also RaajjeTV’s former chairman, returned on Wednesday after spending more than two years in Sri Lanka due to the political turmoil in Maldives.

Akram has been living abroad since receiving a summon from the police service on 4 August 2016.

He was one of the many politicians whose passports were confiscated while abroad. At the time, Immigration stated that people who are wanted by the court or investigative bodies are not allowed to stay abroad using their Maldivian passports as it hinders court proceedings or investigations.

On Monday, Immigration announced that his passport was released and that there is no obstacle for him to return to Maldives.

He was welcomed at the airport by RaajjeTV’s Managing Director Ahmed Saleem, Chief Operating Officer Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, and other senior employees.
