Supporters and activists of the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) have gotten into a heated dispute upon Member of Parliament for South-Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof’s arrival at the queue outside the Supreme Court premises, on Tuesday.
While the court had scheduled the third and final hearing in the case for Tuesday morning on Monday, supporters of the ruling party had begun queuing up 12 hours prior to the commencement of the trial.
Following the dispute, MP Mahloof stated that he was merely taking the place of someone he had placed in the queue on Monday night.
It is notable that everyone in the queue had printed out token numbers themselves.
While the Supreme Court accommodates up to 30 people, about 25 persons will be allowed to observe the court proceeding after thorough inspection from officers of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) who are maintaining security inside the court.
It has been understood that the court will decide on whether to let the plaintiff, President Yameen, present secret witnesses and their testimonies in the hearing or not.
