People began queueing up outside the Supreme Court building twelve hours prior to the commencement of the third and final hearing in the trial of the constitutional case filed by ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives regarding the Presidential Election.
After holding two hearings back-to-back on Sunday and Monday, the Supreme Court announced their scheduling of the third and final hearing at the hearing held on Monday. While the hearing is to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and people, who began to queue up at 08:00 p.m. on Monday, may begin noting down their names to join the hearing at 08:30 a.m.
A majority of the queue consists of supporters and activists of the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM), as such, about 25 people had queued up near the court premises with their own token numbers.
While the third hearing will hear a final verdict from the bench of judges, the opposition coalition and the Elections Commission (EC) had slammed outgoing President Abdulla Yameen who presented their case in detail during the morning session of the court proceeding held on Monday. As such, a photo of the alleged rings that were allegedly brought to rig the election, along with three pieces of evidence against Ahmed Shareef, Elections Commissioner, were presented at the hearing.
