Employees at the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure are being targeted on the streets and have fallen victim to threats by some locals, says Minister of Housing Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Muizzu revealed this via a tweet posted on Friday night. As such, he wrote that these employees have gone into mental trauma, further calling on strict action to be taken against the people who threaten the ministry’s employees.
Muizzu’s tweet comes at a time the inconsistencies in allocating housing units under the government’s shelter program, as well as and from Hulhumale’ phase II being sold at unreasonable prices, have provoked public outrage. As such, the ministry employees have been directed to put hefty price tags on plots of land. These employees have since confessed that this is being done unjustly.
Moreover, employees at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Thursday filed a petition regarding their concern over the government’s decision to issue plots of land from capital city Male’s suburban extension Hulhumale. While 171 employees had signed the petition including senior members, a total of 19 points were noted in the petition, it noted that the 400 plots of land in the recently reclaimed phase II, are being issued at a lower price that will bring a major loss for the company.
Employees of HDC had filed the petition at the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Audit Office and the Finance Ministry.
