Criminal Court has on Tuesday nullified the bribery charges raised against business tycoon and Jumhooree Party (JP)’s leader Qasim Ibrahim’s son, Siyad Qasim.
The charges against Siyad were raised after documents found in Judicial Administrator Hassan Saeed’s home had allegedly implicated him in unlawful activities.
He was arrested on the 06th of February, after President Abdulla Yameen declared a nation-wide state of emergency, and was kept in incarceration for five months,
Financial transactions, which bore his signature, was allegedly to bribe former Supreme Court Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed to order the release of his father, Qasim Ibrahim on the 01st of February. He is alleged to have given USD 2.4 million as bribes.
The state had revealed that Siyad, Villa Company’s managing director had signed the documents.
The most important piece of evidence against the conglomerate heir is that the Villa Group, founded by his father, had paid for a property in Malaysia bought by Supreme Court chief justice Abdulla Saeed.
The court had ordered to keep Siyad in remand until his trial concludes, and he was released on the 19th of July.
