Following Supreme Court’s ruling reinstating four lawmakers, lawyer Ibrahim Riffath has said that the country’s security forces must be held accountable for ‘unlawfully’ preventing them from entering the parliament and thereby violating the rights of their constituents.
Supreme Court, on Monday, ruled to keep four of the 12 MPs in parliament. Riffath was their defence attorney.
He said that the security forces had unlawfully prevented them from entering parliament for almost 14 months and that both the police and military must be held accountable ‘to the constituents of those MPs, for violating their right to take part in the conduct of public affairs.’
Indeed. The four MPs have been unlawfully prevented by the security forces to enter the Parliament for almost 14 months. Both @MNDF_Official @PoliceMv must be accountable to the constituents of those MPs, for violating their right to take part in the conduct of public affairs. https://t.co/UsGxx6rVDy

The court is yet to hear the cases of the remaining eight lawmakers.
