PPM has been holding serial rallies in capital city Malé claiming that the Elections Commission was complicit in rigging votes

The ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has called on government offices to seize the process of transitioning power to president-elect Ibrahim Solih, on the grounds that the September 23rd elections were rigged.

After President Abdulla Yameen's lost his bid for re-election, PPM has been holding serial rallies in capital city Malé claiming that the Elections Commission was complicit in rigging votes through eloborate means such as a layer of power that would transition ink or make it disappear.

President Yameen himself said that he believes he recieved significantly more than the 96,052 votes he is said to have recieved according to results of the elections. His supporters have said that they are seeking a court order to reppeal the results and to hold a second round of votes.

Supporters of the Joint Opposition have highlighted that the ruling party's activities in capital city Malé are tolerated by the Maldives Police Service, which had recent leadership changes that resulted in acting-commissioner of police Abdulla Nawaz. a career police officer, being trasnfered to the Environment Ministry. They say while officers would not allow their rallies to continue and violently disband them, PPM activits can gather peacefully.
