Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih respects the rights of women and will uphold their integrity, says Aminath Nadira of the opposition aligned Maumoon Reform Movement.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Fuvahmulah, Nadira said that President Abdulla Yameen’s administration has defamed women and harassed the youth.
In response to President Yameen’s campaign speech recently, where he encouraged boys to ‘beg, borrow or steal’ mobile phones for their girlfriends, Nadira said that his misogynistic statements are 'unacceptable'.
Further, Nadira said that to claim that Maldivian women need another person to buy them items they require is defamation and that Maldivian women have a lot of respect for themselves.
Nadira also responded to President Yameen’s comments at another rally where he said ‘even wives do not ask their husbands if the money they make is halaal’, to say that these comments are untrue.
“It may be true for some, or for you. But let me say that this is not the case for the majority. We want to know how the money that buys our food and the food for our children was acquired”, she said.
Nadira encouraged supporters gathered at the rally to vote for presidential candidate Solih in next week's ballots.
