Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has shown their face recognition technology to the media to be used in the upcoming presidential elections.
The software was revealed after the opposition coalition’s campaign event in Malaysia on Friday night.
The face recognition technology is built to check the identity of voters at polling stations and pick out those trying to vote more than once.
After revealing the software, MDP chairperson Hassan Latheef told the media that it will detect the face of people waiting in queues and reveal those trying to vote twice. He said that they are now talking with the coalition parties to use it at every polling station on election day.
No government authority has begun use of face recognition technology and very few Asian countries use it. Singapore, Malaysia, and China have face recognition on cameras monitoring public areas.
