The Joint Opposition has asked authorities to check ballot papers before the voting process.

At a press conference on Monday, Mariya Ahmed Didi, the spokesperson of the Joint Opposition presidential candidate, expressed concern over news that authorities are planning to use a device to check the ballot papers and only count the votes it deems valid.

Mariya highlighted the absurdity of the Elections Commission (EC) questioning the validity of ballot papers, which the commission itself had made, and said that the EC should check the ballot papers how many times they like before issuing them.

Noting that devices such as phones are not allowed inside polling stations and the ballot papers are designed by the EC, Mariya said there is no room to question the validity of the ballot papers.
