Government tyranny will be stamped out in the presidential elections on September 23, says Shidhatha Shareef, President of Adhaalath Party’s Foreign Relations.

Speaking at the mass Joint Opposition campaign event at Alimas Carnival on Saturday night, Shidhatha said that President Abdulla Yameen has failed in all his attempts to strike fear in the public and that citizens have gained their voting rights on their own.

Shidhatha said that people has never had to face as much oppression as they do now and that they have never before seen state powers acting outside legal boundaries and undermining their basic rights.

“I don’t believe there was any time in Maldives’ history that the courthouses have been as fragmented as it has now.”

She said the current government has undermined the constitution and blatantly oppressed the people.

However, the country will return to the rule of law on September 23, she said, expressing belief that no less than 170,000 will vote for the opposition.
