Maldives President Abdulla Yameen has appealed on the citizens to garner votes for him in the upcoming Presidential Election in anyway they can 'even if it means through influence'.
President Yameen made this appeal to citizens at a ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) campaign gathering held on Friday night, following the Sinamale Bridge officially being opened to the general public.
Addressing attendees at the gathering, the President appealed on each and every one to garner as much votes for him as they can attain through influence, along with their own votes.
“The votes you cast on the 23rd of September is very important to the nation. It is my earnest request to all of the attendees tonight, to cast your votes for me and to garner more votes for me through your influence” said the President, who is vying for re-election as candidate number one in the upcoming September ballots.
The President made this appeal at a time issues of forced participation in ruling party gatherings have surfaced for state employees. Reports have it that state employees are being ordained to partake in the ruling party campaign activities to gather more support for the President and his running mate, prominent religious scholar Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
