Government begins distributing land in islands after Solih makes pledge
Housing minister Dr. Muizzu told state TV channel PSM that the government has ordered the island councils to give out the reclaimed land

This was after Solih pledged that his administration would begin distributing the reclaimed land in the first few months in office

After Joint Opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to distribute the reclaimed land in the islands, the government has announced plans to begin distribution.

Housing minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu told state TV channel PSM that the government has ordered the island councils to give out the reclaimed land.

The minister said that they have never given out land right after reclamation since they would have to draft a plan to distribute the land.

In a Joint Opposition event in B. Thulhaadhoo on July 28, candidate Solih noted that the government has stalled the distribution of the reclaimed land in the islands and pledged that his administration would establish a land use plan in the first six months and begin distribution.

Solih raised the issue in Thulhaadhoo since the land reclaimed in the island during President Nasheed’s administration has not been distributed even after seven years.

During Nasheed’s administration, land was reclaimed in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, HA. Dhidhdhoo, Gn. Velidhoo, Lh. Hinnavaru, K. Maafushi, and Gulhifalhu.
